Every morning at 7:30 AM, as I pulled my car out of my apartment building I would see people digging through the garbage in the dumpsters.
I would look at then and wonder; how can I find my life so depressing when I have all this stuff. I had a car. I had an apartment. Savings in my bank account. And these guys were digging through the trash.
I knew that I had it pretty good. I knew that things could be worse, but it didn’t make me feel any better. Because there is a difference between appreciating what you have and knowing that you could have it worse.
Recognizing your blessings leads to gratitude and motivation. Fixating on others disadvantages leads to guilt and inaction.
Just because others have it, worse doesn’t mean you couldn’t have it better.
Appreciate the luck that you have in your favor, but don’t let the naysayers keep you still when they tell you it could be worse.
It could be worse is a way to avoid responsibility. You avoid taking action. You avoid recognizing that you could improve your life, and you think, I might as well stick with the status quo
The people who change the world don’t resign themselves to it could be worse. They aspire each and every day because it could be better.
