It’s easier to see a change than a steady state.
When you start making positive changes in your life, it is easy to feel good from the momentum you are building. But once the positive becomes routine, and the quick and easy progress of early days fades, dissatisfaction can creep in.
You stop appreciating the positive actions that you are taking. And when you fail to appreciate the positive actions, they blend in with the neutral and negative.
Reading turns from a feel-good choice to an undifferentiated activity in a murky soup of blah-ness.
So you end up on Snapchat instead of reading. You end up watching garbage on youtube instead of learning something.
Listening to a podcast, reading a book, or going for a walk can become routine and largely unexceptional, but never forget to appreciate the good you are doing for yourself. Choose to celebrate the little wins and the good decisions you are making on a daily basis.
Note the little victories in your day. Build confidence from your good choices. Build willpower from healthy decisions. Have faith in the process and remember that routine positive action may feel unexceptional to you, but having the foundation of positive habits is what will make you exceptional in the long term.
