The path to where you want to go is not smooth. It’s not easy. There will be discomfort, and there will be pain.
There will be setbacks on your journey.
In these moments when you find yourself slipping and losing gains you had made, it is important to remember that setbacks are part of the process of growing.
When we encounter setbacks, we notice ways in which we can improve. We notice that the foundation we had built was not as sturdy as we had once thought.
Even though consistent progress feels nice, it sets us up to lose in the long-term. We become afraid of discomfort and afraid of setbacks. We become weak and fragile because we feel the need for everything to go smoothly.
Resilient change is made in a two step forward one step back fashion.
We slip, we fall, we fail, and we learn to handle the uncomfortable lessons that come up when you are trying to do something big.
We can learn to love the slide. We how to learn in moments of discomfort. How to stop the slide, and rebuild.
The path to where you want to be is not smooth, in the short term the bumps hold you back and slow you down. But in the long term, the bumps propel you to where you want to be.
