Choosing a new diet, a new exercise plan, or a new morning routine is about adding value to your to your life. That’s why you started. It was about getting more out of life, not less.
But along the way, preferences slowly turn into rules, and things you were avoiding can turn into demons.
You go from being able to enjoy a large range of food or different morning habits, to risking your day falling apart because you break your rules and eat cards, or sleep in.
The point of optimizing is to make your life better. To increase your enjoyment and ability to get things done. Don’t lose sight of that as you implement new routines and actions into your life. Remember that you can always change your behavior, your rules aren’t rules they’re preferences, and if they aren’t making your life better, you ought to stop doing them.
Don’t let optimizing make you fragile.
