Saturday mornings are my favorite time of the week to work. I wake up early, like I would on a weekday, get my things together, and head to my coworking space.
Instead of school kids and traffic, the streets are calm and tranquil. Because of the high altitude in Mexico City, there is still a cool chill in the air in the morning but you can feel the sun is starting to warm up.
The streets of our neighborhood are lined with green trees and flowers, you can see the bright blue sky overhead and feel crisp air. With some good music to listen to, the 25 minutes through the tranquil city are some of the best times of the week.
I work on the 11th floor in the common desk space. Usually, there are a few other people on Saturdays, but not until later in the morning. For the first few hours, I am all alone. I feel a sense of ownership over the space and a sense of pleasure knowing that while others are sleeping, relaxing, and brunching, I am making progress on my projects.
There are broad windows that look out over the north-west section of Mexico City. Buildings for as far as you can see in the distance. I pay $200 for a monthly membership here, but as I look out over the city with no one else here, I feel like I own the whole building.
I remember hearing a story about Mike Tyson running at 4 am. Someone asked him why he gets up that early to workout and he answered that he wants to work while his opponent is sleeping.
I enjoy my Saturday morning work in the same way. There is something pleasurable about working when no one else is. You get to make progress with very few new things being added to your plate. I enjoy thinking of myself on Monday and how good it will feel when I start Monday with a clear head, ready to get to work.
I take Sundays to rest and explore new parts of the city, but whether it is work work or work on personal projects, Saturday is a day of the week that I enjoy more than any other.
