We all have competing pulls towards doing what is comfortable in the short term and what will help us grow in the mid to long term.
Safety and Comfort feel good in the moment, but in the long-term the only way to feel good is by pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.
If you give in to what feels comfortable and easy today, you will eventually end up bored, numb, and unskilled. If you push yourself into discomfort, or put yourself in a situation where your environment pushes you to deal with challenging situations, it doesn’t feel good in the moment but in the long-term it leads to confidence, capability, and pride.
That is not ground breaking insight. It is almost cliche, but it is very hard to apply to life. It is easy to resent challenges that we face day to day and to start wishing they didn’t exist.
But the longing for a smooth and easy life is a recipe for disaster. Even though it doesn’t feel good, the best way to guarantee your happiness in the future is to put yourself where you are challenged to learn and overcome obstacles today.
