I have a strong headache right now, so I’m going to keep this post short.
Over the past 250 days, I’ve written 250 blog posts.
One each day for 2/3rds of a year.
Some of those posts have been long, some very short. Some were completely finished thoughts, some were ideas that I was just starting to play with. Some I feel great about, some I don’t. But what matters to me isn’t the quality of individual posts, but the discipline of following through with this commitment.
I’ve written almost as many blog posts in 2018 as I had written my entire life before 2018. That is the power of the daily commitment to blogging.
If I had set a vague goal of blogging regularly, I would certainly take tonight off. My head hurts and I would prefer to be sleeping, but when you give yourself permission to take a night off like tonight, it makes it easier to take a night off in the future, simply because things aren’t perfect.
And you don’t become a writer from writing when you feel like it, you become a writer by writing when your head is pounding and you’d prefer to go to sleep, but you don’t because you write every day no matter what.
