People think of the regulations and legal requirements of work as trivial and mundane. Most of us aren’t employers so we aren’t very aware of the red tape involved with employing someone, but even for employers it is using an annoyance, but nothing more.
But there is a far more insidious side to labor laws. They enforce the record keeping and identity taking requirements that make it nearly impossible for people with the wrong identities to get jobs.
They prevent people from trading their money to certain people based on where they were born. They prevent people from other countries from integrating into the marketplace in their new homes.
They force refugees into accepting handouts and charity because it is so hard for them to get the right paperwork to actually get into the workforce.
Similarly, housing regulations prevent them from finding affordable accommodation and from taking out leases. Once again forcing them to rely on charity, handouts, or a black market.
What seem like small and innocuous rules like requiring employers to contribute to social security and thus take social security numbers, have dramatic effects on our freedom. They enforce the principle that there is no area of life where we are not at the whim of our masters, the government. We bank, live, work, and travel with their permission and we will not be truly free unless even the smallest regulations are gone.
