Labor Day should have ceased with the fall of the Berlin Wall.
In 1989, as communism died, we should have thrown this public holiday into the garbage bin of history. We should have moved on from putting mindless labor and unions on a pedestal.
What actually moves society is individuals that choose to think and find new ways to create value. They are the ones that have given us the technological blessings that we have today.
Entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial employees are the people who should be celebrating. The people that take a serious risk, putting their capital, time, and reputations on the line to make their customers lives better.
Laborers do create value, but the unions and workers movements that Labor Day exists to celebrate are nothing more than leeches on society. They use their state-granted privilege to extort money from companies at the threat of mutual destruction. They are an anachronism waiting for it’s Berlin Wall moment.
A forced government holiday to celebrate communist ideology is not a holiday worth celebrating.
