There are lots of people early on in their careers who identify as “idea people”.
It comes in lots of different strains:
“I want to help companies start new product lines.”
“I want to come up with business ideas.”
“I want to design ad campaigns.”
“I want to help companies create better narratives.”
The core theme is wanting to be someone who directs work but doesn’t actually do the work.
This elusive position of the “idea man” is attainable and there is a very simple path to get there: Make a shitload of money.
If you have $50 million in the bank, you can pay for all sorts of ideas to be created. You can hire the people to get their hands dirty and come up with plans, narratives, and strategies all day. You can be an “idea person” so long as you can pay for “get shit done” people.
If you don’t have a shitload of money in the bank, the bad news is your going to have to get your hands dirty. You’re going to have to learn how to be a “get shit done” person before anyone gives a shit about your ideas.
