A good life is something that emerges from daily habits. To set the stage for your life to flourish you can’t neglect any areas of your health.
For me, every period of dissatisfaction, anxiety, or stress in my life has come when I have neglected to keep a balance between important areas of my life. When I’ve abandoned my physical health for my work health or my relationships for my physical health.
Your life is a system and neglecting individual parts of the system will make the whole system weaker, even if it temporarily improves one specific area.
The key to improving is to start aiming to balance:
-
Sleep
-
7-8 Hours a night
-
Catch up with naps when you can
-
-
Eating Well
-
Eat vegetables every day
-
Don’t eat unhealthy stuff (ice cream, cookies, doughnuts, pizza, burgers, cheesy sandwiches, etc) more than once or twice a week
-
Cook half your dinners
-
-
Exercise
-
Some brief daily practice (stretching, yoga, running, pushups/squats)
-
Lift weights a couple times a week
-
Do something physical a couple times a month that gets you out of your head (dance, hiking, rock climbing, a sport)
-
-
Working
-
Do something valuable to others that makes you money, and aim to steadily become more valuable
-
Be courageous and fulfill your responsibilities
-
Use a system to capture and hold your tasks (so you can turn off your mind)
-
-
Learning
-
Learn one new skill a year
-
Challenge yourself at work
-
Read 30m to 1h a day to engage with new ideas
-
-
Nurturing Relationships
-
Commit undistracted time one day/per week to spend with your significant other
-
Commit 2 nights (or afternoons) to conversations/activities with other people
-
Meet someone new once per month
