There is a growing brand of chaotic and outlandish behavior by the anti-Trump crowd.
They believe that they are fighting Trump, but no one who is reasonable sees AntiFa and the other loud and aggressive protestor types as admirable. They look like obnoxious children who haven’t realized they are now adults.
Since they are the most vocal anti-Trump voices, there is a strong association between them and the Democrats. This opens Democrats up to be branded as extreme.
Democrats probably think that their loud and outraged protests are making people question their current leaders, but for the reasonable spectators, it actually makes them wonder what is wrong with the protestors.
In 2016, Trump was cast as dangerous and risky. People voted for him because they wanted to shake things up. In an ironic twist, he is now able to brand his opponents as dangerous and unstable because of their poor attempts at persuading the public.
Outside of the hardcore commits on either side, there is a large group of people that are reasonable and normal and all they see is a bunch of lunatics leading the parade for the Democrats.
The Supreme Court fiasco will not change any supporters opinions, but it will make a lot of average people see the Democrats as extreme and unreasonable and unethical.
The lesson that you can pull from this is that it doesn’t only matter what you stand for, it matters how you stand for it. People will often forget the points you were protesting, but simply remember the angry, yelling, traffic blocking, peace disturbing behavior and choose to associate with the people who aren’t that.
How you oppose something can mean the difference between feeding or destroying the thing you hate. Observing the behavior of the opposition to Trump and the Republicans makes me believe that his opposition is actually making it much easier for him.
