Taking ownership of your life is a constant battle.
There always will be part of you that wants to place responsibility for things you don’t like on others, a voice that sounds soothing at the moment, but leads nowhere but pain. To overcome that voice, you need to learn to understand it.
It exists because life is painful. Things will never go exactly as we want them to go. There will always be discomfort, dissatisfaction, and unideal circumstances. That is the nature of life and the nature of how we experience the world around us.
This voice is a short-term coping mechanism. It makes you feel better in the moment to give away responsibility and pretend you don’t have control, but when you give away responsibility, you will slowly descend into worse and worse results.
Taking ownership of your life is almost never the easiest thing in the short term, but to get what you want out of life, you can never compromise on that position. It might be easier emotionally to find an external source for any given issues, but sacrificing ownership is not something you can do here or there. If you do it once it slowly invades the way you operate in life.
So no matter the situation, when you feel yourself avoiding responsibility. Stop, consider why, and take back ownership of your life.
