I was watching a show the other day, a scene where a bunch of early twenty-somethings are having a multiday party, and it struck me how odd it is that YOLO culture is so present among young people and so scarce among older people.
In a lot of mindfulness spam, the idea that you ought to live in the moment is very present. But there is a lot of nuance to living in the moment. If you are 20 years old, odds are you have at least 30 more years of life minimum. For any group that won’t be the case for some, but for the majority it’s true.
At any stage in life it does not serve you to obsess over the past or the future. To lose the ability to appreciate your day because of anxiety tomorrow. However, it does make a lot of sense to plan for tomorrow. Because for 99.9% tomorrow will arrive and if you YOLO’d yesterday you’re in for a world of hurt today.
