So much of the way we live has lived in idea-space, separated from our physical reality and from actively engaging in our relationships and community.
We sit around and stare at our computers at work, when we take breaks we stare at our phones, when we go for walks we listen to music, when we want to relax we go watch a movie.
All wonderful and enjoyable things to do, but all activities that you engage with purely in your mind. In many ways, we are already choosing to live in the metaverse.
No matter how productive you are or how many conversations you have with friends or how engaging and deep the movie is, this idea-space engagement will always leave us with the feeling that something is missing.
Over time, without the deeper feeling of living an embodied life, we feel a creeping sense of numbness. We start to feel burnt out at work, too tired to visit with friends, and unmotivated to learn to things.
The antidote to this is to get deeper than idea-space. To meet up with a friend and go for a walk, go to a dance class, build something with your hands, or join in an activity with friends. It is only through participatory and embodied activities that we can build a sense of presence and belonging.
