Often we feel like the challenges we are facing are completely unique to us. We get in this mindset of feeling like we need to come up with some innovative plan to create a breakthrough.
I think it’s better to approach your problems like an amateur handyman would approach a problem at your house:
- You have a screw but don’t have the right screwdriver, let’s try the butter knife.
- Leak under the sink, give duct tape a shot.
- TV not working? Unplug it and plug it back in.
Instead of dwelling on it, thinking about it, meditating, and searching for insight, just try something that worked for you in the past or worked for someone else. It doesn’t even need to have worked for the same problem.
Feeling unproductive at work, go for coffee with a friend. Feeling anxious, go to the gym. Feeling stressed, write a blog post. Try a morning routine, take a cold shower, and fast for 24 hours. Just start trying things, keeping track of them, and seeing what helps and what doesn’t.
Approach the problem like an experimenter without preconceived ideas or judgments. You’ll be very surprised by what you find.
