It is tempting to try and create self-esteem for yourself through identity games. By seeing the world through a black and white lens of people who belong to the good side or the bad side and telling yourself you’re a good person because you identify the right way.
But the short-term boost is always undermined in the long-term because the only true way to have self-esteem is through taking right action day after day. The fruit grown of a life focused on doing the right thing–day in and day out–is a lack of concern for what most people think of you and quiet confidence in yourself. It is exactly the sentiment that will never come if you believe yourself to be better than others because of your identity or beliefs
