What I think is the biggest challenge of writing a blog every day is coming up with ideas for what to write about on the days when nothing obvious jumps to mind.
When those days hit I use a technique from James Altucher. I pull out a piece of paper and challenge myself to write down ten ideas. I write the idea for a title and a small blurb of what it could be about.
Usually coming up with the first 2 or 3 is hard, by 4 or 5 I can feel the ideas rolling, and I almost never make it to 10 because I’ve found a topic I like and am starting to write about that.
The way to get to a good idea is by giving yourself the freedom to engage with bad ideas.
When you let the critical part of your brain take the lead the creative part takes a step back, but in order to find a good idea you need to put yourself in a creative, not critical, state.
