One of the most remarkable experiences I’ve had was challenging myself to wake up at 5 am everyday for a month.
When my alarm clock went off the first few days I felt like hell, the temptation to snooze and stay in bed was so strong that it took everything I had to get out of bed.
Three weeks later, I jumped out of bed and didn’t even think about wanting to sleep longer. All it took was three weeks of practice and something that felt incredibly difficult became natural and easy.
As humans, we have an astonishing ability to get used to things. We can get used to being fat and out of shape, or we can get used to how we feel when we have a garbage diet. But you can also flip that trait on its head and get used to doing hard things like waking up early, going for runs, or eating clean.
I no longer get up at 5 AM, but the value of the challenge for me comes from learning how quickly hard things can become easy if you stay dedicated and consistent with them.
