As I’ve gotten older, one of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that aiming for perfection almost always leaves you with nothing.
Dan Sullivan says that you should always aim for 80%, not 100. Don’t focus on getting something perfect. Just get it to 80% then go through a second time and work on improving it.
When we sit down with the expectation that we are going to create our ideal version of something, we set ourselves up to fail. We get frozen and procrastinate. We got bogged down in small details.
Instead, give yourself permission to take a shot at 80%. Get something that will work and then go from there, working to improve but not perfect it.
