One thing that strikes me whenever I visit one of the formerly Great Progressive Cities is the way expectations differ between people.
If you go out to walk your dog in a Great Progressive City and your dog takes a poo that you don’t clean up, you get a ticket.
On the same walk you are likely to see needles on the ground, discarded by addicts who live in tents set up in city parks. They never receive tickets.
If you are out and see someone walking their dog without a leash you are likely to see others complaining or a bylaw officer giving out a ticket.
But you turn a corner and see a human shitting on the ground as everyone walks by and pretends it isn’t happening.
If you drive your car to Starbucks and leave it running while your wife goes it for a coffee you might get ticketed by police for your idling engine.
While in the Starbucks a homeless person grabs arms full of products and runs out the front door. The police do nothing.
The sacred cows of our petty tyrants create anarchy in the streets and you can’t live without getting a license for your dog.
