Whether it is a job, a project, or a new habit, when you start something new you should always commit to some length of time that you will absolutely stick with it.
So if you think you want to start going to the gym more, commit to going three times a week for three months. Then review and asses at the end of that time frame. If you start a new job, you might want to commit to being there for a year before assessing if you want to re-up. If you start a podcast, commit to ten episodes.
Once you hit your checkpoint give yourself permission to assess whether it is working and whether you want to continue. But before you get there, don’t. Don’t spend mental energy every day thinking about if you like your job or if you’re better off quitting.
When you don’t set a checkpoint and instead just get started on a project with no end date, you are opening up your mind to always be thinking about if it’s worth your time or not. It’s a recipe for poor performance and axienty. Instead, define your checkpoint and don’t think about it until you get there.
