One of the things I’ve grown to love over the past few years is going back to the places that I’ve visited before.
When we started traveling, we focused on going to new places and doing new things—adding new countries and new experiences to our list. But as time goes on I’ve started to appreciate more the experience of going back to the same places.
Building a relationship over time with a city, going deeper, exploring new neighborhoods, and seeing how it changes over time. By going back you find favorite things and meet friends that you never get to appreciate if you are only in a place for one short visit.
Going on a trip somewhere is a singular experience. It is unique and the combination of experiences with the setting will never repeat. But time brings a different perspective, so like re-reading a book, when you go back to someone you’ve been before, you come as a different version of yourself. It helps you connect with who you were in the past and identify how you’ve changed.
